I've owned and trained this amazing breed since 1992. It has been a priviledge to work with these incredible dogs which are a dedicated worker with a willingness to please like no other. Requiring a firm but Fair/gentle hand they will dedicate their life to you and your family. Being an Obedience trainers I also deal with this breed on a regular basis in my classes for Obedience and behavioral issues. Aside from training for companionship, I also compete in Obedience trials and enjoy conformation and agility. Buying a Rottweiler from a Breeder that is responsable and ethical about the breeding and selling of their dogs is extremely important for the outcome of your relationship with your new companion with also a good understanding on How to Establish/Re-Claim Leadership. (Please do your homework BEFORE buying!!)
Owning and breeding Rottweilers is a big responsability. One that should not be made lightly. If your are not experienced and knowledgeable, Please leave it to the experts. A reputable and Responsable Breeder will do the following Health Clearances before using a dog for breeding purposes, make sure that Both parents have been cleared for the following and ask to see the Certification number, any breeder that will not release this information you should be suspecious of.
Sire and Dam should be OFA Cleared for Hips and Elbows ( Hips are graded on a Fair, Good or Excellent rating system if passed), or OVC Cleared, no rating is given with OVC, it is only a pass or fail system, a lot of Canadian breeders do both to be certain. OFA Cardiac (by Specialist), OFA Thyroid Normal Eyes Cerf. Cleared. All of these Health Clearances are important to ensure that only healthy suitable dogs are being used in a breeding program in order to better our breed.
